Why is an image on the clipboard not a file?
After you copy an image or take a screenshot, the clipboard usually holds image data rather than a file that you can paste into a folder.
That is why an image from a webpage, chat or design tool may paste into another app but not into your file manager. This tool turns the pasted image into a file you can download.
Web and chat images
You copied the picture but there is no useful “Save image as” option.

You copied artwork from a canvas, document or slide and need it as a separate file.
PNG, JPG or WebP?
Choose a format based on the image and where you plan to use it.

ZIP mainly makes several images easier to download; it usually does not reduce their total size by much.

Filenames and formats
Why can the filename or format change?
The original filename and metadata may not be copied to the clipboard, and a browser may expose the image in a different format.
Downloads use your selected PNG, JPG or WebP format and a new name based on the filename prefix.
